span of time
Film installation
Span of time is a moving portrait of a solid and sedentary structure within a living landscape. It was selected for a group exhibition The City: Visions and Realities National Gallery of Arts, Tirana, Albania, July 2008.
The focal point of this work is a railway bridge that crosses the River Thames near Wallingford in Oxfordshire. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1839, the bridge still carries the mainline railway service between London and the South-West.
It symbolises the Industrial Revolution at its height, and stands as an example of man's ingenuity in his attempt to tame nature.
